Recovery Compression Boots

Recovery Compression Boots

When we exercise we stress our muscles causing minor tears to our muscle fibres. Recovery boots are a great way to recover after training and help prepare for performance. We use the Air Relax boot, they are lightweight and fully portable. These boots cover your entire leg, from the groin to the foot, and inflate using pressurised air, which mimics the sensation of deep tissue massage. There’s a zone boast sensation that allows specific muscles to be targeted. They…

  • Improve circulation
  • Reduce swelling and inflammation helping the body to recover faster
  • Help reduce pain and fatigue after training sessions allowing the athlete to achieve peak performance

Dry Needling

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a treatment which is used to decrease pain and weakness in a muscle.

It is a therapeutic treatment where a thin needle is inserted into a tight muscle that may contain a trigger point.

Trigger points are tight tender knots in a muscle which can cause pain, weakness and musculoskeletal imbalances.

Dry needling may provide relief for some muscular pain and stiffness. In addition, easing the trigger points may improve flexibility and increase range of motion. That’s why this method is often used to treat sports injuries, muscle pain, and even fibromyalgia pain.

Rehab / Exercise Prescription

Rehabilitation / Exercise Prescription

We use Rehab Guru to prescribe personalised rehabilitation and prehabilitation programmes to our clients. This allows us to give individual and specialized programmes to each person, programmes come with videos and pictures to ensureexercises are carried out correctly. It is a very simple system to use and allows for the best outcome from treatment for patients. Exercise prescription is very important for a number of outcomes:

  • Promote a faster recovery from injury
  • Reducing pain
  • Physical and mental wellness
  • Reduce the risk of osteoarthritis
  • Improving the strength of muscles
  • Help with balance and coordination
  • Improving heart and lung function
  • Helping with sleep problems

Pilates

Pilates

Pilates is a low impact exercise regime designed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen the core, improve posture and body awareness and provide flexibility and balance, all while helping relieve stress and tension. Core strength involves the deep muscles of the abdomen and back working together to provide strength and stability of the body and in particular the back. Pilates has something to offer all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. Here, we offer one to one pilates and groups classes to help you activate and engage that core thought in a safe and steady progression with an experienced APPI instructor. Benefits of pilates include:

  • Whole-body workout
  • Enhance core stability
  • Self care
  • Increase strength & stamina
  • Improve flexibility
  • Reduce risk of injury
  • Improve posture
  • Aid rehabilitation & recovery

Mobilisation

Mobilisation

Here in MH sports injury clinic, all our therapists are skilled in mobilisation and manipulation techniques. Normal movement in a joint is painfree and allows your joint to move in all directions. When a joint becomes restricted, you may experience pain and/ or stiffness. Mobilisations get the joint moving, in doing so:

  • Reduces stiffness
  • Increases range of motion
  • Reduces pain
  • Increases function

Mulligan Mobilisation with Movement

MWMs are mobilisation techniques used as part of the Mulligan concept. MWMs are glides performed while the patient performs the symptomatic movement in a painfree range.

Sustained natural apophyseal glide and Natural apophyseal glide

SNAGs and NAGS are mobilisations as part of the Mulligan concept. NAGS are used on the Cervical spine (neck) and upper thoracic spine (upper back), whilst SNAGS are used through out the spine, the ribs and the Sacroilic joint. SNAGs should be pain free and are gliding mobilisations, while NAGS mobilisation the joint midway through range, and work really well with all neck pain patients.

Kinesio Tape / Rock Tape

Kinesio Tape / Rock Tape

Kinesio tape first caught our eye in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kinesio tape works on the lymapthic drainage to create extra subcutaneous space, which changes thepressure gradient in the area under the skin. It allows the free flow of blood and lympathic drainage to cleanse and heal the inflammation.

Kinesio tape moves while you move, allowing full range of movement, which in turn allows the athlete to continue to training.

Kinesio tape can be left on for several days, giving a therapeutic quality 24 hours a day, thus significantly accelerating the healing process of the injury.

Kinesio tape can be used during activity and is much more comfortable than a brace. It inhibits the pain pathways. This in turn, improves muscle tone and reduces muscle spasm.

Biomechanical Assessment / Orthotic Prescription

Biomechanical Assessment / Orthotic Prescription

At MH Sports Injury Clinic we offer a full biomechanical assessment, and if needed prescribe a custom made orthotic.

The prescription of an orthotic device is usually recommended as part of an overall management of the patients injury or condition. Conditions such as heel spurs, plantarfasciitis, achilles tendonopathy, shin splints, knee or hip pain or any recurring injury could benefit from a custom made insole. The orthotic controls the alignment of the foot and skeletal system thus reducing pain and symptoms of the patients condition.
Orthotic devices vary from heel raises, off the shelf wedges, prescription orthotics or custom made orthotics designed from an impression of the patients foot.

The type of orthotic prescribed depends on the finding in biomechanic assessment, the
patients needs and lifestyle and the type of injury.

Instrumental Assisted Soft Tissue Massage

Instrumental Assisted Soft Tissue Massage

Instrumental assisted soft tissue massage or IASTM is an noninvasive manual therapy technique. IASTM is applied using specifically designed instruments to provide a mobilising effect to soft tissue to decrease pain and increase range of motion and function.

The instrument is used to comb through scar tissue and soft tissue restrictions, producing microtrauma. This stimulates connective tissue remodelling. Several IASTM tools and techniques are available including Grasons.

There is a lot of history behind the use of instrumental assisted soft tissue massage for helping with soft tissue problems. It evolved from the ancient practice of Gua Sha in Anicent Chinese medicine.

These tools are quick and easy to use and very effective for both the patient and practicioner, which also reduces the contact time.
